It’s 12th largest in the world, at 115 million people, second only to Nigeria in Africa, in one of the most fertile areas of the world. When all the rest of Africa was colonialized by Europeans, Ethiopia alone maintained its sovereignty, actually startling the world by defeating a modern Italian Army in 1896.
